Waterjet cutting heads from STM
Our systems can be equipped for a wide range of cutting tasks. From classic 2D cutting to heads with cutting angle error compensation or complex multi-head systems to 3D cutting heads with 5-axis kinematics with up to 68° swivel range.
STM 3D 5-axis cutting head
The STM 3D 5x Z axis is fully CNC controlled. 3D coordinates can be controlled by the CNC with X, Y, Z, A and C axis interpolated (simultaneously). The cutting head swivels through the robot kinematics and a cutting angle change is possible without X/Y movement. Equipped with continuous height sensing of the workpieces, the cutting head provides permanent protection of the focusing tube and thus of the entire cutting head against vertical and horizontal collision. Height sensing can be easily removed for total freedom of movement, both for pure water and abrasive waterjet cutting.
- Working range A-axis up to 68
- Working range C-axis +/- 720
- 5-axis cutting, cutting angle error compensation and bevel cutting
- The cutting head swivels through the Tool Center Point by means of the robot kinematics. Cutting angle changes are possible without X/Y movement
- Can be upgraded with continuous height sensing -protects focusing tube and entire cutting head from collision
- No elevated structure of the cutting bridge required.
- Low weight, drive system therefore needs less power
- Height sensing can be easily removed giving absolute freedom of movement when cutting
Technical details – STM 3D 5-axis cutting head
- Working range A-axis up to +/- 68 degrees
- Working range C-axis +/- 720 degrees
- Axis cuts, cutting angle error compensation and bevel cutting
- No elevated structure of the cutting bridge required – this keeps its weight low and the drive system requires less power
- Height sampling adjustable in different intervals between 5 and 999 seconds:
- one-time scanning at the start of cutting
- Scan each contour 1 x
- Continuous scanning of the cutting contour
- Encapsulated mechanics and motors for high wear protection and long service life.
- No compressed air is required for the encapsulation of the STM 3D 5-axis cutting head.
- Can also be used optimally for 2D cuts, thanks to standard waterjet valve and standard abrasive cutting head
STM TAC 12° (TaperAngleControl)
Angular error regularly occurs during 2D cutting with waterjet cutting systems. The cutting gap is around 1 mm at entry and around 0.2 to 0.7 mm at exit, depending on the speed. This error is automatically compensated by the new STM TAC cutting head to +/- 0.05 mm. Perfect 90° cuts, 100% round holes and nested parts can be cut easily and quickly. The STM TAC 12° does not make a rotation, but performs a swiveling movement. A significant advantage of this kinematics is that the duplication of inaccuracies due to a rotation is excluded.
- Highest precision and cutting speed
- Working range A-axis up to 12
- The STM angular error compensation cutting head automatically compensates the angular error to +/- 0.05 mm.
- Integrated height sensing and collision protection
- Encapsulated mechanics and motors – high wear protection and long service life. No compressed air needed for encapsulation
Technical details – STM TAC 12° cutting head
- Working range A-axis +/- 12 degrees
- Working range B-axis +/- 12 degrees
- Individually adjustable electric intermediate stroke
- Encapsulated mechanics and motors, thus high wear protection and a long service life. No compressed air is required for encapsulation.
- Integrated collision protection
- The integrated height scanning can be set in different intervals between 5 and 999 seconds:
- one-time scanning at the start of cutting
- Scan each contour 1 x
- Continuous scanning of the cutting contour
STM 2D cutting head
For simple applications, the 2D head is best suited. Especially in the field of pure water applications, since here you have the possibility to mount several valves in parallel on the cutting head.
- High precision and cutting speed
- Manual rotary holder for bevel cuts
- Continuous scanning of the cutting contour
