2nd TechWeek: Waterjet cutting at its best
Clever solutions in separation technology live & digital
In this challenging trade show year, the STM Waterjet Group, as a pioneer in the waterjet market, again defied the global pandemic. The second free in-house exhibition took place from 13 to 16 April 2021. This state-of-the art in-house exhibition for waterjet beginners and experts from all industries, took place this time digitally as well as – Covid19 compliant – on-site and thus presented itself nationally, internationally as well as cross-industry.
More than 50 companies accepted the invitation of the global waterjet specialist ‘STM Waterjet Group’ from 13 to 16 April 2021. STM presented itself on site, at the STM test center in Eben im Pongau, Austria, and for the first time online at STM TechWeek digital.
For four days, visitors and onlookers learned first-hand all about the latest technologies on the waterjet market and the associated manufacturing possibilities. The interested parties were offered a number of things.
TechWeek digital
This year, for the first time, the STM in-house exhibition also took place in digital form. Daily live streams directly from the showroom as well as online presentations by the STM Premium Partners enabled all interested parties to be there live and learn about the potential of water as a fascinating tool.
The perfect cut streamed live
The daily live streams directly from the STM showroom gave all interested parties, regardless of any travel regulations, the opportunity to inform themselves about the manifold possibilities in waterjet separation technology in entertaining technical presentations.
Among other things, the STM PremiumCut – the waterjet cutting system of unlimited possibilities – for 2D cuts as well as 3D applications and the special application of the pipe turning device for cutting all kinds of pipes were presented here.
In addition, other streams focused on the heart of waterjet cutting systems – the high-pressure pump – as the ‘engine’ of the waterjet. Clever solutions for recycling and cleaning water and abrasive with the STM abrasive rinsing systems were also the focus of the live broadcasts. A tour of the STM in-house exhibition and showroom rounded off the live sessions.
“Especially in these challenging pandemic times, we have to go new, innovative ways for our customers. The success and positive reception of the STM TechWeek and TechWeek digital prove us right. Direct exchange with our customers – digitally or in person – is our top priority. Therefore, we are already looking forward to the next STM TechWeek from 27-29 April 2022!”
Jürgen Moser, Managing Director STM
Waterjet cutting for beginners
In order to familiarize beginners in the field of waterjet cutting with this fascinating technology, video lectures by STM Premium Partners were also offered online. Here they learned all about the importance of regular servicing of waterjet cutting systems (STM Premium Partner ‘RWS – Real Waterjet Service’), the benefits of water treatment for waterjet users (STM Premium Partner ‘Ekowa‘), and how to operate a 5-axis waterjet cutting system using STM SmartCut software. The STM TechWeek digital 2021 content will continue to be available online and can be viewed directly on the STM Waterjet Group website.

Waterjet cutting applications up close
On display were cross-material, 2D and 3D cuts, nested applications with multiple parallel cutting heads, and tube cuts, up to and including micro waterjet cuts. The participants also learned how to control the systems, read in drawings via SmartCut software and test cut workpieces according to their own templates.
Once again, Corona’s strict on-site security concept proved to be very advantageous: well distributed over several time slots per day, guests were introduced to and advised on all aspects relevant to them individually and according to their individual needs. The assembled waterjet experts were exclusively available for the exchange of experiences and specific questions. Thanks to this individual support, the visitors benefited from concrete manufacturing concepts that enable the respective company to operate successfully in the long term, even in difficult times. The enthusiasm and interest of the participants were correspondingly high.
IOT – forward-looking developments at STM
Internet of Things was also omnipresent at STM TechWeek. Production processes are thus simplified and machines are networked with each other. STM is taking a first step in this development with the ‘Smart Machine’. The digital networking of man and machine (M2P – machine to person) facilitates remote maintenance in the event of service. Because with the help of a digital dashboard, downtimes, plant utilization and much more can be evaluated. This increases downtime and enables timely, cost-effective service at the customer’s site.
STM TechWeek digital 2022
With the “STM TechWeek”, STM offers the industry an efficient, significantly more practice-oriented and safer alternative to conventional major trade fairs. Therefore, the date for the next STM in-house exhibition on site as well as digitally has already been set:
From 27. to 29.04.2022 STM invites again to the presentation of the separation technology of the future!
